ABOUT US

Instone Court is a traditional mixed Herefordshire-based family run farm.

Sidney Parker bought the farm in 1919 and later established S J Parker and Son which is still trading today under the careful hands of his grandson Simon Parker and his wife Elaine, alongside their two daughters Brooke and Avena.

As a traditional Herefordshire farm the family grows hops, cider fruit and Bramley apples along with more unusual cobnuts across the farm’s site of 250 acres. Added to the fruit business are free-range laying hens alongside pedigree sheep flocks of Ryelands, Coloured Ryelands, Dutch Spotted, Blue Texel, Badger Face Texel, Kerry Hills and Oxford Downs along with a commercial flock.

Both Brooke and Avena are passionate about showing sheep at both regional and national shows and have success in young handlers classes and breed classes. Some of the breeds are offered at Society sales at Ludlow, Worcester and Welshpool and enquiries are welcome for sheep to be purchased from home. There is also a small herd of goats on the farm and sometimes goats are offered for sale.

Simon is passionate about hops and in addition to being a director of Charles Faram Farms, has an active part in the British Hop Association with the aim of promoting the use of British hops and developing new and exciting aromas.

The apples grown consist of traditional heritage varieties are grown specifically for superior flavour and those that you wouldn’t normally see in the supermarkets. Meanwhile, the cobnuts are predominantly sold to a unique fresh green nut trade with cobnuts offering many health benefits.  They can also be used in a number of culinary ways.

In 2017 the family installed a vending machine to offer farm fresh produce 24/7. This has proved to be a successful venture for the family and offers a range of eggs, bread, locally made curries, sweet treats, milk and seasonal vegetables.
