As a relatively new breed to the UK the Dutch Spotted Sheep has gained a tremendous following. These highly sort after sheep are simply stunning.
They have an amazingly inquisitive nature and are easy to handle. Commercially they are also showing great potential. Their meat is reported to be sweet and lack the ‘sheep’ smell during cooking which can put many off.
The DSS originated around 800 when farmers reclaimed some swamp and marchland and needed a way of maintain the newly formed embankments. From the 1950’s the sheep were breed with Texel, Zwartble and other breeds to improve carcass and form the DSS we see today.
The Team-Rock flock was established in 2019 from imported ewes and Beech Hay blood lines. Lambing in 2020 was very successful with some amazing ewe lambs produced. The first stock from our flock will be available from the early summer.
These sheep should come with a warning – they are highly addictive!
